Innovation & Research
for Construction Practice.
New technologies, digital methods and changing requirements are shaping the future of construction. We participate in practice-oriented research and innovation projects and examine new approaches for their technical, organisational and economic feasibility.
Together with research institutions, authorities and industry partners we work on questions of sustainable, future-proof construction practice and safe, efficient traffic management.
Topic Areas
New technologies first have to prove themselves under real conditions. We accompany this path – from research through pilot applications to practical implementation.
- Research for construction practiceWorking on practice-oriented research questions in road construction – from technical and organisational feasibility to transferring the results into construction processes, planning and tendering.
- Site documentation with dronesUsing unmanned aerial systems to document construction progress, traffic routing and project status, and to produce up-to-date site surveys.
- 3D capture and modellingCreating digital as-built models and 3D data as a basis for planning, documentation and project communication.
- BIM and digital planning methodsApplying modern planning methods and supporting digital project workflows in temporary traffic management and work zone safety.
- Traffic data as a planning basisUsing available traffic data to support traffic management concepts, option studies and project-related assessments – for example in our route analysis (in German), based on data from more than 900 federal counting stations.
- Pilot projects and field trialsAccompanying innovative methods and technologies under real operating conditions and supporting their introduction into planning practice.
Current Research Project
Volta Via
Ongoing project · completion 2026Electrification of Large Construction Sites
How can large construction sites be operated in a more climate-friendly way in the future – without compromising safety or the construction process?
In the Volta Via research project, a consortium of industry and research partners is investigating the electrification of construction machinery, transport logistics and power supply on road construction sites. HX mobility contributes its expertise in traffic management, construction sequencing and work zone safety.
Project partners incl.: Zeppelin · PEM at RWTH Aachen University
